So Much Confusion
So Matt agreed to look at the picture, and in his mind was not convinced that it was the same girl who sat in class with us every week.
All this investigative work was starting to get to him though. The more he looked at the picture, and the more we talked about the girl in class, the more he started to think she wasn't so unattractive after all. Matt was getting ideas of his own, but I knew I had his loyalty.
Neither of us saw Marcy for that week, but things were heating up with Stuart and I. Well, if by "heating up" you mean that I actually had a conversation with him. You see, I had been keeping my distance, and only sharing the inviting smile or wave hello as an offering of aknowledgement. Even though I was sure to sit near him in class to make sure I was always in his line of vision.
We finally struck up a conversation, but I don't particularly know what it was about. I only know that I probably sounded like a fool. I couldn't believe that I was so nervous talking to this guy. It wasn't my style, but I hadn't generally put so much investigative work before. In all honesty, I think I had come to like the hunt far better than the prey.
Finally, we got to class, but of course things couldn't go as planned. Matt's plan to get a closer look at the potential Marcy was foiled when the professor decided to show a film. Insteaed of gazing at her from across the room, we were squished in a corner without much a view. Matt still couldn't tell if the girl in class was indeed Marcy, but either way - he was starting to get the hots for her.
To make matters worse, a few days later, Matt found out a little bit more. He was innocently walking to school, when out of the corner of his eye, he say Marcy exiting the local coffee place. He recognized her in a second because she was wearing the same suit from the picture online. He was too far away though to know if it was the same girl in class. She was dressed so professionally, with her hair down and in formal attire. In class she wore jeans and a pony tail.
Despite the lucky hit of finding her, things got considerably worse. Who should be joining her for some java but Stuart himself! Matt had never seen him, but was sure that it was the guy who I'd described so many times before. He relayed the information, and I was appalled.
"Clearly they're fucking." I exclaimed, exasperated at the seeming defeat.
Matt tried to convince me that they were probably just getting coffee because they saw each other at school, and because they were still friends. That didn't mean they had gotten back together.
I wasn't convinced. But I was confused. Was any of this even worth it? The guy barely knew my name, and I was employing spies to get more dirt.
I decided to keep digging. But first I needed Matt to get some more shovels.
The Plot Thickens
So, I did indeed recognize Marcy. I spent 3 hours per week with her, and coincidentally enough with Matt each Thursday night, in one of my classes.
I was shocked. The apparent object of my jealous intrigue had been sitting across the room from me for weeks. She hadn't spoken in class, so I had mostly ignored her as another face in the crowd. But no longer.
Coming to the realization that I had done a great deal of snooping into her life, I became incredibly self-concious that she might have heard of me. I was that blonde bitch trying to get a hold of her boyfriend.
Ex-boyfriend in my book. Or was there something that I didn't know.
Suddenly this had all become a bit more than I was ready for. I called up Matt and directed him to the picture online.
"Are you sure that's her?" he asked. He apparently didn't quite recognize her. He admitted that she looked a little bit like someone in our class, but that he didn't think it was her.
To be honest, that wasn't even my primary concern.
"But she's not hotter than me, right?" I asked.
Poor Matt, to be put in that situation is awful. He handled himself well though, admitting that even though Marcy was more of his type, that he still thought she couldn't hold a candle to me. He's such a sweetie. And a great source of information. He agreed to keep a lookout for the girl in the picutre, as well as take a closer look in our next class. He could verify that it was her, and maybe help me find out if she knew anything about me.
The information game was sure getting interesting. But not as interesting as when Matt did a little digging of his own.
Getting the Goods on the Ex
So now that I had someone on the inside, I needed to find out more about her. Turns out that she attends the same school that Stuart and I do. She will be graduating at the end of the year, and looking to join a large firm. I was only given the description "tall, skinny, brunette."
I'm a petite blonde - so strike one against me in the "type" departement.
I enlisted a friend or two to be on the lookout for tall, skinny, brunettes that were in their final year of school. It wasn't easy, but we narrowed it down to a few. We'd figure out which one is Marcy soon enough, and I'd REALLY get a handle on the competition.
Luckily, or unluckily perhaps, my friend Matt has a thing for tall, skinny, brunettes - so he was happy to lend a hand. He began taking a closer look at each and every brunette that walked by. Since we shared a late afternoon Thursday class, we were able to keep tabs weekly on any new possibilities.
Then I struck gold. Finally, I learned her last name. I thought it would have appeared rude to probe my sources up to this point for info. I was happy to let it drip out of them slowly, both giving me time to process the information and keeping their suspicions at bay.
I won't reveal her last name, but suffice it to say that it was unusual enough to register some hits on a Google search, and low and behold there was her smiling face, part of a recent news article about a student-based program in which she was actively involved. So there she was, I could now have Matt double his efforts in finding out more about her.
But there was a problem.
An interesting coincidence made my jaw drop when I saw Marcy's face.
Because I already knew her...
Finding Spies
Discovering spies to do your dirty work is much easier than you might think. Especially when you limit yourself to the small world of a school, office, club, or other specific place. I mean, after I took an interest in Stuart, it was only coincidence that his ex girlfriend's best friend's buddy started dating one of my friend's old girlfriends. Amazing!
All I had to do was hang out with her a few times, until I coincidentally meet this guy she was dating. It didn't take long to figure it all out. Soon enough, he was telling me stuff about Stuart's ex. and I didn't even broach the topic!
I found out that they split up because they are idealistically in different hemispheres. She wants to hit the big time as a premiere defense attorney, while he wants to stay quiet and retire early to his boat on the ocean after a few years in real estate.
Real estate? Boad on the ocean? No, I couldn't care less what he did after he retires in 30-40 years. I'm only interested in him for today!
Now that I had someone feeding me information, I needed to size up the competition, see what it would take to catch Stuart's eye.
Let me set the stage
So, there's a guy I've had a crush on for well over a year. We'll call him Stewart. I did some research and found out that he had a girlfriend, so I just sort of kept him in the back of my mind.
Let me explain how this all started. I was at a bar, with lots of other people. I was about to order a drink. He walked up, orderd one for himself, and bought one for me as well. It was nice of him to do, but even more strange was the fact that he didn't try to talk to me afterwards. He just said hello, orderd me a drink, and went on his merry way. Only NOW do I realize that he was probably headed back to meet his girlfriend on the other side of the bar...
But I think the fact that he wasn't trying to get anywhere made him all that much more attractive to me. Maybe it was simply a greater challenge. So since then, I've seen him around often, but I've never been daring enough to even say hello.
That is until, he joined one of my classes. Coincidentally, through the rumor mill I heard that he'd just broken up with his girlfriend. Under normal circumstances, it would have been time to go in for the kill. But with me, I have to get all my info first. Now that he was seemingly available, I would begin a full investigation. I knew what I was getting myself into.
After all, the hunt is what I like best.
My Very First Post
Wow. I can't believe I'm actually doing this. One of my biggest secrets is the fact that I love spying on guys from afar. NO - I'm not a stalker or anything like that. But you have to get the inside track on a guy once you take an interest right?
I'm going to share some of my favorite memories, and probably most embarassing stories as well. You'd never believe how easy it to have en entire network of spies working for you... just to find out what some guy's ex-girlfriend looks like.
I'm new to this whole "blog" thing, so you'll have to cut me a little slack until I get the hang of it. I hope you enjoy my tales of spying on the opposite sex!
